What You Need To Know About OneBloodRewards

OneBloodRewards is a loyalty program organized by OneBlood, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) community to encourage and recognize frequent blood donors.

OneBloodRewards operates on a straightforward points-based system. Each time an eligible donor gives blood or platelets with OneBlood, they will earn points that accrue in their online rewards account. Here is the current points structure:

  • Whole Blood Donation – 250 points
  • Double Red Cell Donation – 500 points
  • Platelet Donation – 500 points
  • Successful Referral – 100 points

These reward points can be accumulated over time and redeemed for gift cards from major retailers like Amazon, Target, Walmart, and Starbucks. Additionally, points can be used to claim reusable donation-themed merchandise including t-shirts, tumblers, phone card holders, and more. This incentive program shows donors that their life-saving commitment does not go unnoticed and will lead to meaningful rewards.

Blood Donation Basics

Giving blood is as easy as A, B, or C. It can take 15 minutes to about an hour, but your impact will last a lifetime. Discover more about how to donate and share your power to save lives.

1. Registration: When you arrive at the Big Red Bus or donor center, simply check in with a valid photo ID and fill out a private Donor Health Questionnaire (DHQ).

2. Health Screening: We check your temperature, pulse, blood pressure, cholesterol, and hemoglobin level. We also review your medical history and determine your eligibility status for donating blood based on your responses to the DHQ.

3. Donation: Sit back, relax, and save lives! If you are giving a whole blood donation, the procedure only takes about 10-15 minutes, followed by a brief period for rest and refreshments.

Blood Donation Process

Donating blood is a quick and easy way to make a lifesaving impact. Here is everything you need to know before, during, and after you donate blood. By familiarizing yourself with the process, you can confidently begin your OneBlood donation journey.

Before Your Donation

  • Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids in the days leading up to your donation to ensure you are hydrated.
  • Eat a nutritious meal: Before donating, have a balanced meal that includes iron-rich foods to help maintain your iron levels.
  • Bring identification: Remember to bring valid identification to your donation appointment. If you are 16 years old (in NC 16 or 17 years old) you need this parental consent form.
  • Review eligibility criteria: Familiarize yourself with the eligibility requirements to ensure you meet the necessary criteria.

During Your Donation

  • Registration: Have your photo ID ready, and fill out the private Donor Health Questionnaire (DHQ).
  • Health Screening: Complete a basic wellness check, including blood pressure, temperature, and hemoglobin levels to confirm your eligibility.
  • Donation: Sit back, relax, and save lives! The process typically takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Try to wear comfortable clothing with short sleeves.
  • Rest & Refreshment: After your donation, replenish fluids and restore your energy with a complimentary snack. This is also a good time to read through your donor take-home instructions.
  • Take a donation selfie to commemorate your meaningful accomplishment with friends and family! Don’t forget to use #oneblood when you post.

After Your Donation

After your blood donation, remember to rest and avoid strenuous activities, stay hydrated, and have a nutritious snack. Avoid alcohol and caffeine and monitor for any side effects.

  • Take it Easy: You just helped save a life, so take the remainder of the day to relax and rejuvenate. Remember to avoid strenuous activities such as going to the gym or lifting heavy objects.
  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids, especially water, to help replenish your body and maintain good hydration.
  • Have a Snack: Enjoy a light, healthy snack to help restore your energy levels.
